Zao: the only place to see soft rime
in Japan!

Soft rime is a condition that occurs when super-cool water droplets descend from fog and attach to objects such as trees, creating frozen layers of fragile white ice.
They start to form in weak windy conditions and temperatures of -5℃ or below, and transform into larger, more elaborate shapes that bend in the direction of the stronger wind.
Zao is famous for its soft rime-covered trees which take on beautiful, but menacing forms of 'snow monsters' stalking the mountains. They are a big attraction for tourists during the ski season.

Only Omiya Ryokan do not allow children under elementary school age to stay.

There is a cancelation fee 3 days before your check-in date up to 14people.

This is large open-air bath where 200 man and women can take a bath at the same time.

What kind of shops are there in the hot spring town?

There are a lot of hot spring facilities, souvenir shops and restaurants. There are also some shops which serve Tamakon famous as Yamagata soul food in front of their shop. Please enjoy it and have a good time in Zao.

Does the ski area be located nearby?

It takes seven minutes walk to Uwanodai ski slope.We have free shuttle service to Yokokura ski slope. Drop Off/ Every 30 minutes from 8:30 to 14:30 Pick Up/ every 40 minutes from 11:40 to 17:40. Weekend and holiday... Shuttle From our hotel to Zao Chuo Ropeway only.

Zao Ropeway is divided into the Sanroku line and Santyo line. It's 1760 meters above sea level. In summer mountain lift is also available, and trekking to Iroha Swamp is possible. Course setting is possible according to the level. Business hours are from AM8:30 to PM17:00. (Business houre vary)

Zao Daikokuten is enshrined at the arrival point of zao central ropeway. The Daikokuten was built in the hope of home safety, rich business, and safe travel. As you proceed along the trekking course, you can see various swamps such as Katagainuma, Medamanuma, Utsubonuma and Dokkonuma. Business hours are from AM8:30 to PM17:00. (Business houre vary)

I would like to know Okama. (Route, Price, Down period)

From Zao Onsen, go througt "Zao Line=Free" and "Echo Line=Free". From "Echo Line" go up "High Line=Paid" and you can see "Okama=Lake Crater". Travel time is about 50 minutes. The price is 550 yen for a regular car. During the winter, the Echo Line is closed and you cannot go to the kettle.
